Since its launch in 2006, PLOD has proved an outstanding success, ensuring significantly increased sales of spirits in stores across the UK and confirming the pilot trials carried out by the Take home Blueprint team and separately Diageo UK where sales went up on average by over 30%.

The scheme, which involves fitting security caps to one litre and 70cl spirits bottles enables these lines to be moved from behind the counter to open shelves near the till, allowing customers to self-select.

Over 400 shops have now been fitted with the PLOD security scheme and is being adapted and welcomed by all the major wholesalers as a standard recommendation.

Retailers are invited to take on a PLOD makeover by paying a fully refundable £50 deposit fee and in return  the retailer will receive  a simple-to-install security cap detacher and a stock of 75 security caps.

Ross Shelley, FWD Blueprint Scheme Director, said: We are so confident that PLOD works that we advise retailers that they will see their £50 deposit paid for in the first month at the latest”
